Winning numerous awards in both environmental excellence and urban planning, Harvest Lakes is an exemplar in how to achieve holistic qualities of liveability from carefully implemented strategies and successful built outcomes. The project demonstrates the immense possibilities of targeting specific points of difference under the liveability indicator framework.
The Community Program has been significant to the success of Harvest Lakes. The program delivered a model in environmentally sustainable community centres, the establishment of clubs and associations, community-based environmental projects and public art representative of the place. Community participation at all levels and commitment by resident’s to environmental projects continues to increase under the program. Importantly, its success in achieving liveability can be measured and improvements can be made.
